Hello again to everyone. I want to thank all who came to my live chat on Tuesday. It was a lot of fun, and I was glad that I was able to answer a lot of questions. Currently I am in California preparing for the US Open and the Hamlet Cup. I recenty competed in the ATP Championship in Cincinnati. I lost in the semi-finals to Tomas Muster, who then lost to Pete Sampras in the finals. I enjoy playing in Cincinnati for several reasons. The people are very nice, and they really go out of their way to make sure that players and coaches are well taken care of. The atmosphere in the city is very relaxing as well, and I usually play well there. The courts there are hardcourts, which is my favorite surface to play on. The US Open begins on August 25th. Before that, I will be playing in the Hamlet Cup in Commack, Long Island, August 18-24. I view the Hamlet as preparation for the Open, but I am by no means taking it lightly; I will have the same focus I always have. Mental toughness plays an important role in matches on the ATP tour. There are so many outstanding players on the tour, that matches are often decided on the basis of one game, or sometimes even one point. I'm off to go practice now, but in my next journal I will talk about the US Open in greater detail, including some of the players to watch out for. Take Care, Michael © 1997-2002 The Man MC |
