Kroger-St. Jude Live Report #2 (by Amber Yates)
Howdy everyone! =) It's been another one of those days where you're just deliriously happy over the outcome of things. Although I was disappointed that Jan-Michael Gambill, my 2nd favourite player, got beat in a heavy 3 set match first thing this morning, Michael came through and set all worry aside as he strolled in and went to work on the Argentinean, Hernan Gumy. Michael played an absolutely beautiful match, 6-2, 6-0, with some awesome returns, and now moves on to the Quarterfinals. His next match will be against Byron Black of Zimbabwe, who just defeated Tennessee's Chris Woodruff this afternoon. Anyway, it's been an excellent week of tennis. Jan-Michael Gambill won in doubles tonight, taking out Tommy Haas and his partner. That was an awesome match, tie breakers in the first 2 sets, and deuce in every game on the last set. Our #1 seed, Mark Philippousis, dropped out of the evening match tonight due to his knee injury he received while at Wimbledon. Cecil Mamiit lost to Wayne Ferreira today in a 2 set match. Cecil was not playing his best today, and although I didn't see the whole match due to Chang's match starting at the same time, what I did see of Cecil, he was not his usual jovial self. I thought for sure he would have received a court violation for his muttered obscenities. Oops! =( But Tommy Haas more than made up for Cecil's non-violated match. Haas went ballistic over a number of bad calls, and really started losing it and calling the chair umpire everything under the sun. Anyway, Haas pulled it out and won...but just barely. And this report would not be complete without the newest love of my life; Paradorn Srichaphan. *laughs* He's still sticking around, and you can usually see him pop up somewhere during a match through the day. His dad/coach, Mr. Smiley, sat with us some today and dozed off behind us on the bleachers. I think I woke him up, though, when I got *a little* vocal during the Woodruff match. I'm afraid I've acquired the reputation as the girl with the big yellow backpack that's in love with Chang and Srichaphan. It's funny, I'll walk in every morning and look up the draw sheet for the day, and some of the employs of the club actually come by and say, "Hey, girl! Your man is playing today!" Man, meaning Michael, of course. It cracks me up, I sincerely never mean to be so pathetic and idiotic. Oh well. ;o) Well, better run and get some sleep. Hope this report didn't bore y'all too much. See ya later, taters! =) Amber <>< © 1997-2002 The Man MC |
