Michael spent
this month recovering from his knee injury, but he still entered tournaments.
He competed in Hong Kong and Tokyo, where he lost in the first and
second rounds respectively. In Tokyo, Michael participated in a fun
doubles match, teamming with Emperor Akihito. Their opponents were
the Crown Prince and recently-retired Japanese tennis player Shuzo
Matsuoka. The match was played at the royal palace. Michael also teamed
up with Matsuoka, Tim Henman, and Pat Rafter in a ceremony to kick
off the tournament. The players donned traditional happi uniforms
and drank sake!
In Hong Kong,
Michael was involved with a gamut of charity events; to find out which
ones, click

During the last
week of the month, he was a finalist at the U.S. Men's Clay Court
Championships in Orlando. More charity work for Michael here--this
clip is from The Orlando Sentinel: "Michael Chang, Jason Stoltenberg,
Mark Knowles and Andrew Ilie took part in Kids Day, an ATP Tour-funded
interactive clinic for local youths. About 50 kids from the Genesis
Foundation participated in the program, now in its fourth year."
Also, Michael
appeared on the show "LIVE! with Regis & Kathie Lee." The show aired
on Tues. April 21st in Orlando during the grand opening of DISNEY'S
ANIMAL KINGDOM, the fourth and newest theme park at Walt Disney World.
Joining in the show were Kathy Kinney of "The Drew Carey Show," "Home
Improvement"'s Zachery Ty Bryan, and Olympic figure skating gold medalist
Tara Lipinski.
