Michael's News: March 2000

WHERE MICHAEL IS NOW: Michael competed in Indian Wells CA and the Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne FL, reaching the second round of both.

MICHAEL IN THE MAR. 2000 ISSUE OF TENNIS MAGAZINE: Michael is featured on p. 20 in this month's issue of Tennis Magazine (U.S.). It talks about Michael's drop in the rankings over the past two seasons as well as the termination of Michael's Prince racquets contract, one that he has held since 1988. "Having [a player] not at the height of his game anymore doesn't make good business sense," said Dave Holland, Prince's senior director of product marketing. The contract will expire at the end of 2000. In the meantime, how is Michael dealing with his current comeback? "I'm having fun trying to get back to the top," he said. "I honestly feel that I can go out and do bigger and better things than the French Open. And I know God's given me the ability to do it....I believe everything happens for a reason. It's been a tough road, but I think things are going to turn around. I don't know when, but sometime."
Michael plans to enter 19 tournaments this year, including the entire Masters Series events (formerly Mercedes Super 9) and all the Grand Slams. Thanks to Amber for telling me about the article!
